Barcode conspiracy theories

Feedback teaser

Answer to yesterday's question, are barcodes really intended to control people? Some believe yes. Others believe they are Satanic in intent. There are claims that barcodes secretly encode the number 666 - the Biblical "Number of the Beast". This theory has been adopted by fringe figures who refuse to label any of their books with barcodes on the grounds that "any type of computer numbering systems MANDATED by any government or business is part of the PROPHECY of the BEAST controlling you."

Check out Feedback, released Sept 7, 2012 if you enjoy conspiracy theories.

Top tales of intrigue

As a writer of fiction it's important that I believe anything is possible (not neccesarily a sought after trait for jury duty but when it comes to creative writing it's a must).

I have always been fascinated with stories of espionage, spies, and conspiracy theories.

So here is a list of ten tales of intrigue in no particular order.

1. Novel - The Spy who Came in from the cold (John le Carre). I read this and fell in love with spy stories and all of le Carre's works.
2. Novel - Stormbreaker (Anthony- Horowtiz) - The first book in the Alex Rider series

3. Novel - The Day of the Jackal (Frederick Forsyth) - read it a long time ago but it sticks in my mind as a great classic
4. Movie - Casino Royale. I love James Bond movies and this one is especially good as it stars Daniel Craig
5. Novel - Watchers (Dean Koontz) - a lot of earlier Koontz novels were wrapped in conspiracy theories, like Watchers, Phantoms, Strangers
6. Movie - Salt. What can I say, I like Angelina Jolie as a bad-ass spy with a grudge

7. Movie - The Bourne series - action packed and interwoven plots
8. Novel - Not a Penny Less, Not a Peny More (Jeffrey Archer) - a wonderful tale of plotting and revenge
9. Movie - The Tourist - what can I say, I like Johnny Depp

10.Novel - The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown) - I know this created a lot of hype, both good and bad, but it was a good read.

Barcodes - are they intended to control people?

Some conspiracy theorists have proposed that barcodes are really intended to serve as means of control by a putative world government. Find out tomorrow what fringe groups are doing to prevent this.

Are barcodes a means of identifying a product, or a mean of controlling people?

If you like conspiracy theories or spy stories, you'll enjoy this ya spy/thriller.

Promotional ideas

As an author I'm alwasy looking out for ways to promote my novel that don't cost a fortune.

Here are few ideas.

1) Signed Postcards of the cover art

2) Hand crafted book marks.

To make bookmarks you will need:
·         A4 sized cardboard. It’s best to choose a colour that compliments the artwork. To make 6 bookmarks, use a ruler to mark 5cm lengths and fold these lenghts in half.
·         Self adhesive magnets. These come in sheets of 50 or 100. I cut mine in half to suit my bookmarks.
·         Double sided tape. The type used in scrapbooks and photo albums.
·         Artwork. In this case I used my book cover. Art work can be anything – old greeting cards, paper flowers, photos etc.
·         Silver pen to add inscription. In this case, I used my initials to autograph.

3) Something that is linked to the story/character, in my case, feather earrings which I purchased, removed from the manufacturer packing and inserted onto my business cards and repackaged in the plastic bags.

4) Business cards
5) Notebooks with business card or postcard or sticker fixed to the front
6) Stickers of the cover art of something linked to the story/characters
7) Candy bag using store purchased candy, plastic bags, ribbons and stickers of cover art
8) Pens with logo or just the name of book to cut down costs
9) Gimmaky items like lip balm, sealed coffee/tea bags, luggage tags, key rings etc with cover art sticker  on top of the manufacturer sticker
10) Tote bags to hold all your wonderful goodies

Have fun creating your personalized promotional items.
